Hi everyone! We are getting closer and closer to the energy of Rosh Hashanah, the cosmic New Year, and it really feels that way; another beginning, another life reboot is just around the corner. This week, we will see the birth of the New Moon of the lunar month of Elul, or Virgo, which occurs over two days: Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27. As it happens, the Month of Virgo is like a very good dry cleaning for our souls!
So, let us examine what’s going on this week…
We notice a very strange phenomenon:
This week’s chart is still a burning fire; however….it has no air at all!!! This means that contrary to any other week, the element of air is practically nonexistent right now in the universe! How come?
The equation is very simple:
No air=no words= no communication!!
As you will find out week after week, the cosmos has a great sense of humor:
Air in Hebrew is called RUACH, which also happens to mean spirit, wind, and is also the name of one level of our soul. This word symbolizes everything that we breeze in and out, including, of course, our words!
As our teacher Karen Berg often says, all of us are very careful about what goes into our mouth (certain foods, better nutrition, good wines), but what comes out of it - not so much!!!
This week, all of us are learning the power of words.
The Ari, Rav Isaac Luria, a famous kabbalist of the 16th century, teaches us something amazing. He says every one of us is given a certain amount of words we need to say in our lifetime. The minute we reach that number our soul is free to transit, meaning that we could just potentially drop dead!
That’s a really scary thought, isn’t it? A thought that will change our consciousness a lot, I bet!
The Ari goes on to add another concept. He explains that words of wisdom are not part of our global count of words; therefore, as long as we speak wise words and try to share positive and enlightening information, it looks like we can keep on talking!
But empty speech literally drains our life energy out. How many times have we talked to someone and later felt totally drained? Our soul knows this information; we just need to connect better to our inner selves.
Actually, this is very much in line with the New Moon of Virgo!
Virgo is an earth sign, and as Kabbalists teach us, it's the air of the earth. Virgo is the lightest of all earth, like the sand!
Virgo is also a mutable sign: they can move and adapt the best, and they are much better communicators than the rest of the earth signs, due to both the internal component of air and to their ruler, Mercury, the fastest planet.
Generally speaking, our friends the Virgos seem very calm, however, inside, it’s a bit of a mess! They have billions of thoughts a minute; the Virgo mind is like a computer - it records everything!!!
If we want to know the truth, we must go visit a Virgo, and for sure we will get more than we bargained for. That’s why it’s a very good match for Scorpio… because it’s equal forces!
Now, here is why the cosmos has humor:
Virgo’s main trait is that they are very critical and judgmental, because they look for the absolute purity ("the virgin") and perfection in everything, but that simply doesn't exist. So, we can just imagine the absolute frustration they feel in life! Hence, they are renowned for their cynical remarks. The cosmos has no air right now with which to help us control our words!
One of the greatest Virgo qualities is their care; they are highly responsible and make great assistants: their offices are full of to-do lists, and they come first and leave last (for the record, Mother Theresa was a Virgo). This is an aspect we want to connect with completely this month.
On another note, the organ corresponding to Virgos is the digestive system, which is very sensitive in their case. Many are extremely picky eaters. The Virgo population also includes a great number of hypochondriacs!
I personally enjoy performing the following test in class:
If I want to know who is a Virgo in the room, I start teaching in front of a picture that is purposely not straight. After two minutes, the Virgos are going to get agitated, and instead of concentrating on the class, they will look at the crooked picture until one finally gets up and straightens it (to the relief of all the other Virgos!)
When we are good at details, we often lose a sense of the bigger picture. So, our homework this week is to connect only to the good in everything and everyone, to wake up thinking about the half-full glass in our lives, and, of course - let's make sure to hold our tongues until further notice!
Wishing everyone a great month of change and acceptance!
Love,
Yael
