We often hear how important it is to start our day off right, whether that means eating a balanced breakfast or getting in a morning workout. As important as it is to feed our bodies, it is just as important to nourish our souls, empowering us to take on the challenges of the day proactively.

Here are 5 ways to set your mind in a positive direction and kick start your day:

1. Take a moment to be thankful.

Counting your blessings” doesn’t need to be just a turn of phrase. Take a few minutes to mentally list all of the things that are valuable in your life – like  your family, your friends, the very air that you breathe, and the fact that you have been given the gift of another day. This exercise helps keep perspective on what is really important.

2. Be calm.

Even if the day ahead is stressful, find time to clear your mind without worrying or stressing about the rest of the day. Do some yoga, drink a cup of tea, meditate, or whatever it is that relaxes you. Starting your day from a place of inner peace allows you to make decisions and act with a level head.

3. Find something that puts you in a good mood.

A good song, a funny video, or an uplifting article can put you in a positive frame of mind to start the day on the right foot.

4. Spread happiness

Let someone know how much you care about them. Call a friend. Send an email or text message. That way you can both start the day off in a good mood. It feels good to make someone else feel good.

5. Think about your intentions.

Who do you want to be today? How do you want to treat people? Making a conscious decision to be a more positive person will have a positive impact on your attitude for the rest of the day.

Our lives are hectic, and sometimes it’s hard to stay positive. But no matter how busy we are, there are always a few moments available for our mental health. With a healthy mind and a positive attitude, you can take on the day as the best version of yourself.
