"We might not be able to remove stress entirely from our lives, but we can learn to use it to our advantage. "
Our lives are hectic. At times, it feels like we have a never-ending to-do list, and the more we accomplish, the more pops up. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
We often hear about the negative effect stress has on our bodies and minds. And while it’s true that prolonged stress can be detrimental to our health, short periods of stress can actually be beneficial when we use it to become better versions of ourselves and to accomplish incredible feats.
We might not be able to remove stress entirely from our lives, but we can learn to use it to our advantage.
1. Stress can keep you motivated.
Think about it this way. When you have a tight deadline, the pressure you feel forces you to work hard and stay focused until the job is done. It makes you stop procrastinating and start putting in the work. Remove that deadline, and it sometimes feels more difficult to complete a task. That’s because without a little stress, there’s little incentive to go all out. Until the pressure is on, “there’s always tomorrow.”
2. Stress can help you prioritize.
Many times, we get overwhelmed with the multitude of projects we have going on at once. But when you know there isn’t enough time to get everything done, it forces you to make decisions. What is most important, and what can be put on the back burner? Stress, when channeled properly, can help us get rid of distractions and stay laser-focused on the task at hand.
3. Stress can teach you to believe in yourself.
When we are faced with stressful situations and then make it through to the other side, we learn something in the process: We are capable of greatness. It is not despite life’s challenges that we rise to our potential, but because of them. It takes a lot of pressure to turn a piece of coal into a diamond.
Experiencing stress teaches us how to handle stress. The key is learning how to turn stress into positive energy instead of letting it bring you down, or overwhelm you. Know that when you are stressed, it is the universe giving you the energy you need to climb to great heights and accomplish great feats.
