Lesson Highlights

  • Joy and happiness attract blessings and strengthen the immune system
  • Shechinah: when the Light manifests in a person's life
  • Jacob as Yisrael: when he is in a higher state he is called Yisrael and a lower state Jacob
  • The Shechinah cannot dwell with a person when there is no joy
  • Experiencing sadness  when the Shechinah is not with us so we can achieve higher levels of joy
  • The Patriarchs exist in two dimensions
  • Joseph's coat (ketonet pasim): Pasim is a code for Joseph's time as a slave
  • Jacob and parallel universes: Jacob knew his son's dreams were true, but was depressed when he thought Joseph died
  • Dots above the word 'et':  the Shechinah was with Joseph's brothers
  • Sadness and depression: not getting what we want
  • Righteous souls experience pain to remove their negative inclination
  • Temporary and long term sadness
  • Using pain to stimulate joy
  • Effort and pain
  • Desire leads us to chase animal pleasures, honor/respect and wisdom
  • True joy comes from connecting to our root
  • Joy does not come from receiving
  • Removing entitlement
  • All actions are for revealing Light
